Welcome to SoCal Prerunner. If you love the sight of a wide-bodied truck flexing two feet of travel over a whooped-out desert wash, you’re in the right place. We’re a Southern California brand built around one obsession: prerunners and the desert-racing culture they came from.
The name says it. Out here between the SoCal deserts and the Baja peninsula, “prerunning” is what teams do before the green flag — they run the course early to learn the silt beds, the rock gardens, and everything the Baja 1000 throws at them. That racing heritage is the whole reason these trucks exist. Long-travel suspension, reservoir shocks, flared fiberglass, tube bumpers, and that classic wide stance all trace straight back to the race course.
Why prerunners specifically? Because they’re the sweet spot: street-legal, desert-capable, and endlessly personal — no two are the same. A well-built prerunner is a truck you can drive to work on Monday and point at the dunes on Saturday. That mix of race-bred engineering and real-world usability is what hooked us, and it’s what we chase in every build we cover.
Our mission is simple: document the builds. We break down how these trucks come together — the engine cages, the shock mounts, the chassis fabrication, the parts that matter — so the next person in the garage has a head start. We cover ground-up build series, shop tours, concept trucks, and the SCORE desert races that started it all, from the Baja 400 to the Baja 1000.
