Then there’s the factory Ford Raptor, which is essentially a turnkey desert truck. Gen 1 (2010-2014) ran a 6.2L V8 making roughly 411 hp; Gen 2 (2017-2020) switched to a twin-turbo 3.5L EcoBoost rated at about 450 hp with a 10-speed automatic; and Gen 3 (2021-present) added the supercharged 5.2L V8 Raptor R at around 700-720 hp. A Raptor gives you wider track, factory long-travel FOX shocks and 4WD out of the box, at a much higher buy-in than an older half-ton donor.
