Azusa Canyon (San Gabriel) OHV Park: Info, Hours and Rules

Finding a legal place to run your truck in Southern California keeps getting harder as environmental and financial pressure shuts OHV areas down. That is what makes the reopening of the Azusa Canyon (San Gabriel) OHV park worth noting.

The park is best known for its extensive series of mud pits, but the new headline attraction is a rock crawling obstacle course. It also offers water crossings, mud slides, and steep hills, a range of terrain that is hard to match anywhere nearby.

The obstacle course was a 12-year effort led by Mike Bishop of ACORA, the Azusa Canyon Off Road Association. Funding help came from the USDA Forest Service, the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation office, the Yamaha OHV Initiative, and Falken Tire.

Rules

All street-legal vehicles must have four-wheel drive to enter. Only a set number of vehicles are allowed in at once, so arrive early on nice days and holidays. No alcohol is permitted, and all vehicles must meet local, state, and federal laws. Registration and spark arrestors are required, and all ATV riders must wear a helmet. The park may close at any time due to river level or weather conditions deemed unsafe by the US Forest Service.
